Fragile: Handle with Care -Maritime Mistakes

August 29

Noon — 1 p.m.  Lectures & Book Talks

From giant rogue waves to miss-stacked containers, to sudden storms at sea there are countless opportunities for things to go wrong when transporting goods across the ocean. Join Chet Hopkins, Maine Maritime Museum volunteer and former Vice President of Marine and Terminal Operations for French Line, as he shares stunning photos and stories of maritime mistakes and shipping disasters. This lecture coincides with the Museum's current exhibit on display at the Portland Public Library Some Burdensome: Big Ships Big Cargoes which pays homage to big ships, past and present, and the folks that filled them.

This FREE event will be held at the Rines Auditorium at the Portland Public Library.
