In Sight: Prints by John Wissemann of BIW and Bath’s Working Waterfront

Oct. 24, 2015 — Jan. 3, 2016

In Sight presents Cushing, Maine, artist John Wissemann’s series of colored pencil on multilayer mono-prints of the Bath Iron Works shipyard and related waterfront (which are within sight of Maine Maritime Museum, just upriver along the Kennebec.)

On a trip to visit his son in Portland, John became fascinated with the shapes and forms of the cranes and buildings at Bath Iron Works and the superstructure of the old Carlton Bridge. He returned again and again to sketch and photograph his newest muse. From this raw material he cut the stencils that he used to make the prints.

Wissemann is a native of Eastern Long Island and has been a summer resident of Cushing, Maine for over fifty years. His work has been feature at The Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine, The Museum of Art at University of New Hampshire in Durham and is represented at Gold/Smith Gallery in Boothbay Harbor.
