Does the Museum offer any admission discounts?

How much time should we plan for a Museum visit?

We recommend you plan at least two hours to visit the Museum, longer if you'd like to take a Museum tour, Kennebec River cruise or BIW Trolley Tour. There's so much to see and do at MMM that we provide a second day of visiting with each admission (second visit must be within 7 days of your first visit).

The Museum offers Kennebec River lighthouse and nature cruises from mid-June through mid-October.

Are there exhibits to interest young children?

Is the Museum handicap accessible?

Yes, our main building, the Maritime History Building, which houses Museum galleries, the Museum Store and restrooms is accessible.  A wide, paved path connects the main building with a portion of the Percy & Small Shipyard including the Mould Loft, but due to the historic nature of the buildings and the property, not all shipyard buildings and areas are accessible.  Two wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Additional assistance moving about our campus may be available; please check with Museum staff upon your arrival.

Is there a restaurant at the Museum?

Our Even Keel Cafe is open seasonally from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, 10:30 to 3 p.m. daily.  The cafe offers salads, wraps, lobster rolls and chowder with beverages and home-baked treats.  For off-site options, the Museum staff and volunteers are happy to recommend area restaurants or eateries or you can review a list on the Dining and Lodging Suggestions page in the Visit section of this website.

Can we bring in a picnic lunch?

Yes, the Museum has numerous outdoor tables and benches in the P&S shipyard to enjoy a riverside picnic.

Are dogs allowed at the Museum?

Dogs are not allowed on Museum grounds, on the cruise boat or in any Museum buildings. Only service animals are allowed on our campus.

Is photography permitted inside the Museum?

Bring your camera, the scenery is incredible.  Photography is permitted and encouraged anywhere outdoors at the Museum.  Non-flash photography is also permitted indoors, but use of flash photography is prohibited in the galleries and indoor exhibits.
