When is the Museum open?
The Museum is open daily from 9:30am-5pm, year-round, except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. More information on hours and admission fees
Does the Museum offer any admission discounts?
Museum admission is free for current Museum members. Discounts for Museum admission only are available for AAA, AARP and CAMM members. Discounts cannot be combined. Current Musuem members also receive a reduced cost for the BIW tour, lighthouse cruises and other activities and events. Learn more about the many benefits of Museum membership.
How much time should we plan for a Museum visit?
We recommend you plan at least two hours to visit the Museum, longer if you'd like to take a Museum tour, Kennebec River cruise or BIW Trolley Tour. There's so much to see and do at MMM that we provide a second day of visiting with each admission (second visit must be within 7 days of your first visit).
When does the Museum offer tours of the Bath Iron Works Shipyard?
The Museum offers Bath Iron Works Trolley Tours seasonally from mid-May through mid-October.
When does the Museum offer boat cruises?
The Museum offers Kennebec River lighthouse and nature cruises from mid-June through mid-October.
Are there exhibits to interest young children?
The Museum offers plenty of activities for young children. Our Family Visit brochure highlights information about things at the Museum that interest children. You can also ask for a copy when you arrive at the Museum.
Is the Museum handicap accessible?
Yes, our main building, the Maritime History Building, which houses Museum galleries, the Museum Store and restrooms is accessible. A wide, paved path connects the main building with a portion of the Percy & Small Shipyard including the Mould Loft, but due to the historic nature of the buildings and the property, not all shipyard buildings and areas are accessible. Two wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional assistance moving about our campus may be available; please check with Museum staff upon your arrival.
Is there a restaurant at the Museum?
Our Even Keel Cafe is open seasonally from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, 10:30 to 3 p.m. daily. The cafe offers salads, wraps, lobster rolls and chowder with beverages and home-baked treats. For off-site options, the Museum staff and volunteers are happy to recommend area restaurants or eateries or you can review a list on the Dining and Lodging Suggestions page in the Visit section of this website.
Can we bring in a picnic lunch?
Yes, the Museum has numerous outdoor tables and benches in the P&S shipyard to enjoy a riverside picnic.
Are dogs allowed at the Museum?
Dogs are not allowed on Museum grounds, on the cruise boat or in any Museum buildings. Only service animals are allowed on our campus.
Is photography permitted inside the Museum?
Bring your camera, the scenery is incredible. Photography is permitted and encouraged anywhere outdoors at the Museum. Non-flash photography is also permitted indoors, but use of flash photography is prohibited in the galleries and indoor exhibits.
Also note that photography is strictly prohibited in the Bath Iron Works Shipyard, so cameras and cell phones are not permitted on the tour. Museum staff will hold your camera and/or cell phone while you take the trolley tour.
Is there RV parking at the Museum?
Yes, our south parking lot has room for RVs, busses and other large vehicles for daytime parking. Overnight parking is prohibited.
