Free Admission for Students during Winter Break

February 21, 2012

Students, 18-years-old and under, will be admitted free to Maine Maritime Museum when accompanied by a paying adult during Winter Break Week, February 20 through 24. There is a limit of two students per adult. Adult admission is $10.

In addition to the Museum’s signature exhibits, its latest exhibit, Port of Portland: A Ship-Shaped History, will be on view. The exhibit relates the history of Maine’s Gateway City through the accounts of iconic and ordinary, historic and present-day vessels transiting the harbor that molded and continue to shape the city’s character and commerce.

Discover the tragic story of the sinking of SS Portland and the loss of her 194 passengers and crew; see the gift the city presented to the highly decorated World War II cruiser USS Portland when the ship first visited its namesake city in 1934; learn about the British ships that bombarded and burned the city in advance of the American Revolution as well as other vessels, a group as diverse as the different eras they represent.

Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington St., Bath, is open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
