Research

woman looks for books in the library

The Museum’s Library is available for use from 9:30 a.m. — 3 p.m. most weekdays to research Maine-related vessels, people, maritime businesses, ports, or nautical artifacts. There is no charge for Museum Members, students, representatives of the press, and other museums and historical societies; all others are required to pay general admission. Appointments are recommended and can be made by e-mail or by calling (207) 443-1316 ext. 336.

Because the Curatorial area is restricted, if you would like to examine objects in the Museum’s collections, you must write or email ahead of time or call (207) 443-1316 ext. 326 to ensure that staff is available to help you. Regular Museum admission fees apply, except for Members of Maine Maritime Museum, students, representatives of the press, and staff of other museums and historical societies. For extensive research projects, there is an hourly fee for staff assistance.
