Gyotaku: The History and Art of Japanese Fish Printing, Talk and Demonstration

Join Nate Garrett, a Gyotaku artist whose work is featured in Maine Maritime Museum’s new exhibit, Kindred Tides: The Gyotaku Artwork of Nate Garrett, as he shares the maritime history and techniques behind the Japanese fish printing tradition. Learn how the art of Gyotaku originated in Japan’s fishing communities and evolved as it spread through art communities around the world. Participants will also get an up close view of Gyotaku techniques as Nate demonstrates his process using local, sustainably caught Maine fish.
This event is free, but preregistration is required.
