Mariners Adventure Camp *SOLD OUT*

August 7 @ 9:00 am - August 11 @ 4:30 pm

student using an awl

Blacksmithing, coastal navigation, boatbuilding, sailing… There’s more to a mariner than meets the eye.

Give your child a chance of a lifetime to learn what it took to be a mariner in the Golden Age of Sail!
August 7 – 11, 2023

Campers will work with professional boatbuilders to learn woodworking and blacksmithing in Maine Maritime Museum’s Boatshop and blacksmith forge, travel to Maine’s First Ship to learn alongside the Virginia, visit the sites of Popham Colony and legendary local shipwrecks (along with some beach exploration!), and have opportunities to learn about Maine’s traditional craft on our historic waterways, all while embracing the truly magnificent maritime history of Midcoast Maine.

Traditional skill lessons with experienced mariners will include rigging, blacksmithing, navigation, knot-tying, treenail making, sea shanties, and more. Campers will work together to hone their craft and build a sense of community, teamwork, and leadership, much like would have existed on a 19th century ship.

2023 Prices:
Members $330 // Non-Members $350

Age range:
Rising 6 – 8 grade students.

Timing:
Camp runs from 9 am – 4 pm Monday through Friday. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available (8 am – 5:30 pm) for an additional $35.

To Bring:

Campers must bring a lunch. A mid-morning snack will be provided. Campers should be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities each day.
