Touchstones by the Sea: A Writing Workshop
July 11 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$10.00 - $100.00
Share an afternoon with award-winning author Irene M. Drago, as she unravels her creative writing process and reveals how she finds inspiration from Maine’s maritime history. You will learn tips on how to weave fact and fiction into the written word. This workshop will feature a break-out brainstorm session where Maine Maritime Museum paintings, such as Charles Robert Patterson’s Report Me All Well, will serve as visual prompts to spark participants’ own creative writing responses. Afterward, Ms. Drago will lead a discussion of participants’ creative struggles and victories and provide feedback to keep the creativity flowing. Aspiring writers and the simply curious alike will enjoy this opportunity to exercise their creative minds.
Irene M. Drago grew up in a Navy family. Before moving to Maine, she worked for the Defense Department as a Russian analyst, earned a Master of Arts degree in Spanish language and literature, and taught at the high school and college level. When she fell under the spell of a historic home in Bath, she convinced her husband to follow her to the coast of Maine, where she was inspired to write Daughters of Long Reach and its sequel, The Maine Point. Ms. Drago is the recipient of a Next Generation Indie Book Award and a Spirit of Bath Award.
Both of Ms. Drago’s books are available in Maine Maritime Museum’s store and through our online store.
