Author Talk: Ryan Brod, Tributaries: Essays from Woods and Waters

In Maine Maritime Museum’s most recent exhibit, Upta Camp, we travel north to Maine’s inland lakes and waterways, where camps are as much a tradition as they are a place; the embodiment of leisure and sport.

Visitors to the exhibit discover the types of activities available to visitors at camps, such as fishing and canoeing; and the architecture and amenities created by camps and their proprietors to produce a uniquely Maine experience.

For a deeper dive, we’ve invited Maine author and fishing guide Ryan Brod to share from his debut essay collection, Tributaries: Essays from Woods and Waters. Signed copied of Tributaries will be available for purchase.

About the Author:

Ryan Brod’s essays, profiles, and criticism have appeared in River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative, Tahoma Literary Review, The Maine Review, The Learned Pig, and Gray’s Sporting Journal, among many other places. He’s a senior contributor for The Drake magazine and he’s written copy for outdoor companies such as Duck Camp. A fly-fishing guide, avid angler, fly tier, tarpon junkie, freelance editor, and educator, he teaches first-year writing and creative nonfiction at University of New England. He grew up in Smithfield, Maine and lives in the original Portland.
