Mariners Adventure Camp

August 9 @ 9:00 am - August 13 @ 4:30 pm
Maine Maritime Museum, 243 Washington St.
Bath, ME 04530 United States

Give your child the experience of a lifetime aboard the schooner Mary E! In this five-day program, campers ages 11-14 will join the ship's crew learning traditional skills of the shipwright on the grounds of the museum's historic Percy & Small Shipyard, including making treenails, blacksmithing, steam-bending wood, and more. Afternoons will be spent dockside and underway aboard the 1906 schooner Mary E, where campers will learn to handle dock lines, raise and trim sails, read charts and plot courses, tie essential knots, and take the wheel. Under the guidance of our professional crew and Coast Guard-licensed captain, campers will put those lessons to work on daily sails down the Kennebec River. The final day will be spent under sail bound for Seguin Island.* Campers will leave this unique experience with a greater understanding of teamwork, leadership, stewardship, and traditional skills. There are two sessions of Mariners Adventure Camp for students ages 11-14 years old; no sailing experience is required. Camp runs from 9 am to 4:30 pm, August 9-13 and August 16-21. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available (8 am to 5:30 pm) for an additional $25. All CDC guidelines will be followed. Members $275; nonmembers $300 *Sailing time and trip to Seguin Island is weather dependent. This program is made possible thanks to support from the Twombly Family
