Free Admission Weekends at Maine Maritime Museum

Bath Savings sponsors free admission weekends in January, February, and March.

BATH, Maine – As part of its ongoing commitment to improving accessibility, Maine Maritime Museum is offering free admission to all weekend visitors in January, February, and March of 2023 thanks to the generous and continued support from Bath Savings.

“For 170 years, Bath Savings has supported organizations that are committed to improving the communities we serve,” according to Katie Spiridakis, marketing officer at Bath Savings. “We are proud to partner with Maine Maritime Museum to invite everyone to explore this fascinating place free of charge. Winter in Maine can be an isolated time for some; we hope this opportunity inspires people to venture out and connect with the community.”

Weekend visitors can enjoy indoor tours of the historic Percy & Small shipyard which will be held at 1 pm on Saturdays. New exhibits on view include “Women Behind the Lens: The Photography of Emma D. Sewall, Josephine Ginn Banks, and Abbie F. Minott,” and “Featured Finds” documenting ongoing research into the provenance, or earliest known history, of items in the museum’s collection. Beginning February 3, “SeaChange: Darkness and Light in the Gulf of Maine,” in partnership with Gulf of Maine EcoArts, a site-specific art and ecology installation will also open to the public. Open year-round, the museum explores Maine’s rich maritime culture through permanent and rotating exhibits, educational programs, tours, and demonstrations.

“I’ve personally heard first-time visitors remark, ‘I had no idea this was such a huge, cool museum!’” says Amanda Pleau, marketing and communications manager at Maine Maritime Museum. “And we’re hoping that by continuing to remove barriers to entry, we can show you why that’s true.”

As part of its accessibility initiative, children 17 and under receive free admission through 2026 thanks to Central Maine Power. The museum has also partnered with Museums for All, a program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, to provide free admission to anyone with an EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card. As a participating institution, visitors can simply present their EBT card at the front desk to receive free admission for up to four people any time the museum is open.
