Additional Notes on Accessibility
Wheelchairs are available for loan at the Admissions desk. For visitors with mobility needs, Visitor Experience staff are happy to arrange golf cart service around campus.
Accessible restrooms are located in the Maritime History Building and seasonally in the Visiting Yachtsman’s Building.
There are 11 handicap-accessible parking spaces, as well as a drop-off area with benches located in close proximity to the museum’s main entrance.
Changing tables are available in all of the museum’s restrooms.
Maine Maritime Museum is a smoke-free campus.
HISTORIC SHIPYARD
A few areas of substantial incline in the historic shipyard may present some challenge for wheelchairs and strollers.
The floors in historic buildings and gravel paths may be uneven in places.
The majority of buildings have accessible entrances at the main level, but upper levels of historic buildings are currently only accessible by stairs.
CRUISES
The floating docks can be reached via the accessible ramp.
Wheelchair access aboard the cruise boat Merrymeeting is limited to the main cabin. On-board restrooms are not wheelchair accessible.
SERVICE ANIMALS
Service animals are welcome, but pets and support animals are restricted to the south end of campus and not permitted in any building.
Dogs must be leashed. Please clean up after your pet.
KultureCity Sensory Inclusive Certified
As a Sensory Inclusive Certified institution, Maine Maritime Museum is committed to ensuring that all guests are welcomed and included.
Any visitor who needs one is welcome to borrow a Sensory Inclusive Bag from the front desk. These kits include a pair of noise-canceling headphones, three fidget tools, a pictographic feeling thermometer, and a VIP lanyard.
Staff and volunteers undergo annual training on sensory need awareness, behavioral modifications, and available tools to best support visitors with unique sensory needs.

Our 20-acre campus is navigated via a mix of paved and gravel walkways suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Our social stories and other sensory inclusive tools make our galleries more accessible and enjoyable for those with sensory needs.
Wheelchairs are available on site on a first-come, first-served basis and, if requested, a staff person can provide golf cart transit through campus.
