Kennebec Explorers Camp (Wait List Only)

For Rising 2–5 Grade Students
Nature hikes, beach trips, shipyard games, crafts, science... The fun goes on and on!

This summer, Maine Maritime Museum will offer seven sessions of our five-day summer camp that will develop your child’s curiosity for natural exploration and all things maritime. With a different theme for each session, repeating campers will gain new experiences every week!

Campers will explore the ecosystem of the Kennebec Estuary and gain a sense of stewardship for this special place. Each week, campers will take part in field trips, boat cruises on the Kennebec River, games, science experiments, crafts. On select weeks, we’ll also learn from guest speakers!

Small weekly groups, low camper-to-counselor ratios, and experienced educators make for an unforgettable camp experience.

Weekly Themes

    Session 1 | Legends of the Deep

    June 22–26, 2026
    Join us for an exciting week, where we will dive into classic tales of pirates, mermaids, sea monsters and more! Through stories, exhibits, crafts, skits, and games, campers will explore beloved Maine stories and have the opportunity to create and share our own adventures. 

  • Session 2 | Going Green

    June 29–July 3, 2026
    We’re going green this week! Campers will join counselors in interactive games and activities where they will learn about native trees and plants, along with ways to help nurture them and the surrounding environment!

  • Session 3 | Paws and Claws

    July 13–17, 2026
    Paws, claws, fur, feathers, fins, and flippers. This week of camp is all about animals! From eagles in the sky, to the fish in the river, we will explore Maine Maritime Museum and its surrounding environments to learn about the animals that call Maine home.

    Session 4 | Under the River and Through the Sea

    July 20–24, 2026
    From the Kennebec River to the Gulf of Maine, there is an entire underwater world to explore. Come join us as we explore Maine Maritime Museum and beyond to learn about Maine’s life below the water.

    Session 5 | Maine Time Travelers

    July 27–31, 2026
    This week, campers will get to travel back in time to explore how Maine has transformed throughout history. Through games, stories, and hands-on activities, campers will explore different histories and traditions that help define Maine!

    Session 6 | Crafty Critters

    August 3–7, 2026
    Did someone say crafts?! This week, campers will explore the natural world through art.  From finding art in nature to creating art inspired by nature, campers will be able to express themselves through multiple mediums this week, leaving them with plenty of works to take home!

    Session 7 | Best of Week

    August 11 – 15, 2025
    The last week of camp is about the best of the best. The best field trips, the best games; we will be learning, exploring, and having fun. There will be guest speakers, field trips, science experiments, art projects, and museum exploration. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled week!

    2026 Prices:
    $310, museum members receive a 10% discount discount and free before and after care.

    Age range:
    Rising 2–5 Grade Students. Limited spots available for rising 1st graders if attending with a sibling. 

    Schedule:
    Camp runs from 9:00 am–4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available (8:00 am–5:00 pm) for an additional $40.

    What to Bring:
    Campers must bring a lunch and afternoon snack. A mid-morning snack is provided. Campers should be prepared to spend the entirety of each day outdoors.

Campbrain Register or Login

Scholarships 

Thanks to the Davenport Trust Fund, Maine Maritime Museum can offer financial assistance to those otherwise unable to attend. Applications for scholarships are available during the registration process; to secure your spot, each camper will need a non-refundable $75 deposit regardless of financial aid award.

Cancellation policy

  • 14+ days before the first day of camp = full refund.

  • 7–13 days before the first day of camp = 50% refund.

  • 6 days or less before the first day of camp = 25% refund.

  • No refunds given for cancellations week of camp (including but not limited to sickness, vacations, etc.) 

Please note that if your camper does not attend their week of camp without notifying staff ahead of time as outlined, the card saved on file will still be charged for the full tuition amount. 

No prorated refunds due to absences.
