Gallery Tour Guides (Volunteer)

If you believe in museums’ important role to reveal the past, to inform the present, and to shape the future, we invite you to join our team. You will join us on the beautiful banks of the Kennebec River, on a twenty-acre campus where collaboration and creativity are encouraged.

POSITION SUMMARY

Gallery Tour Guides interpret the core galleries in Maine Maritime Museum’s maritime history building to groups of visitors. These guides tell the stories of international maritime technological development, and connect these stories to the specific collection items and exhibits present in the gallery spaces.

Gallery tours are 30 minutes and offered on certain mornings to prearranged groups of visitors. No prior experience or maritime knowledge is required. All new Gallery Tour Guides will complete a set training plan that includes tour content, visitor engagement strategies, and museum orientation.

Gallery Tour Guides are supervised by the Museum Education Specialist.

This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
