Declaration of Independence | Free Admission & Discounted Cruises

Maine Historical Society is privileged to steward one of 26 surviving copies of the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence—printed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, and sent to the Colonies to announce American independence. The distribution of the Dunlap Broadside was the fastest, most urgent way to spread the news.

MHS’s statewide tour will include a visit to each county in Maine, and Maine Maritime Museum has been chosen as the host for Sagadahoc County! We’re offering FREE ADMISSION (thanks to American Cruise Lines) & DISCOUNTED CRUISES on both days.

While Americans regularly hear reference to the Declaration, it is rare and extremely powerful to be in the presence of such a sacred national document. The Declaration will be on display with extended museum hours, 9:30 am–7:00 pm.

The tour is in conjunction with MHS’s Revolutionary Maine: America at 250, a year-long, collaborative initiative impacting hundreds of thousands of people from all backgrounds in every corner of the state through special events; a major exhibition; educational programming; and extensive digital resources. The effort will highlight and celebrate communities throughout Maine—both their contributions during the Revolutionary era and today.

Reserve your free timed ticket to view the Dunlap Broadside online with Maine Historical Society:
