Bath Iron Works Tour Guide (Volunteer)

Maine Maritime Museum is an independent, nonprofit institution that connects people to the past, present, and future of Maine’s waterways and their global reach. Because this vibrant culture includes different backgrounds, perspectives, and voices—and because our museum welcomes visitors from around the world—our institution is firmly committed to inclusion, accessibility, diversity, and equity.

If you believe in museums’ important role to reveal the past, to inform the present, and to shape the future, we invite you to join our team. You will join us on the beautiful banks of the Kennebec River, on a twenty-acre campus where collaboration and creativity are encouraged.

POSITION SUMMARY

Bath Iron Works (BIW) Tour Guides interpret the history of the shipbuilding company, its technological development, and its industrial landscape in Bath. Guides give 2.5-hour tours that take place in the museum’s exhibit, BIW: Building America’s Navy, on a trolley tour of relevant sites throughout Bath, and finally during a 1-hour cruise on the vessel Merrymeeting along BIW’s riverfront campus.

No prior experience with BIW or maritime knowledge is required. All new BIW Tour Guides will complete a set training plan that includes tour content, visitor engagement strategies, and museum orientation.

BIW Tour Guides are supervised by the Museum Education Specialist.
