Visitor Service Assistants (Volunteer)

POSITION SUMMARY
Visitor Service Assistants (VSA) work closely with Visitor Experience staff to provide a safe, welcoming, and convenient museum experience to visitors. VSAs are integral to the daily operations of the museum, with a focus on assisting visitors find their way around campus, and often providing golf cart rides. This role navigates around the full museum campus throughout the day, and helps to identify safety concerns or problems and proactively enlist staff to prevent or repair damages to museum objects or buildings. Volunteers in this role frequently cross train with other roles and will, as needed, fill in gaps in the interpretive schedule; training is provided. VSAs carry radios, are trained in First Aid and CPR, and will respond to provide assistance in emergency situations.
This volunteer role is a great fit for an independent individual who enjoys interacting with and assisting a wide variety of museum visitors, staff, and volunteers, can be flexible in a busy environment, and is comfortable in a role where no two days are the same.
Prior maritime knowledge not required. Prior volunteer service at the museum is not required, but is a plus.
Visitor Service Assistants are supervised by the Director of Visitor Experience and work closely with other Visitor Experience staff.
This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
